For nearly two decades Yianni's family restaurant has been a mainstay for food and fun in historic downtown Morganton. Like our menu, our restaurant offers a variety of entertainment experiences.     So what’s happened? After 50 years of serving others Yianni needed a rest. Not the Big Sleep just a Big Rest. He asked a long time loyal customer, Elliot Stevens, if he’d like to buy his business. After several “noes” Elliot and Yianni put their heads together and came up with a mutually satisfying agreement. Yea Elliot! So what does the future hold? Well, that’s a larger philosophical question than we want to tackle here. Yianni’s though is going to continue being Yianni’s. Yes, we may need to tweak the menu and its prices as the months and years go by. What successful business doesn’t change with the times? But we will continue to be the essential Yianni’s. On behalf of the kitchen crew and wait staff, we send our warm regards to Yianni’s loyal customers.     This young man had a talent.  He earned respect as a preparer of food for others to enjoy.  His reputation preceded him; extending all the way down to Morganton, North Carolina.

    Two decades ago the farsighted city fathers of Morganton, North Carolina recognized a need.  In order for the “Downtown” to remain a popular gathering place, a cosmopolitan yet family friendly restaurant was needed as a focal point for said gathering.  Yianni was asked to come to Morganton; bring his talent for food preparation with him; open a cosmopolitan yet family friendly restaurant and become that focal point.  He accepted the city’s offer. Yea Yianni!

    For the better part of 20 years “Yianni’s” has been the place “where friends meet”.  It’s not as influential as Greece or as important as Rome but it is famous for its Spinach Pie and pizzas pies; its pastas dripping with virgin oil and heavy cream; its Souvlaki, Mousaka, Marsalas, Piccatas and the very best wings in town.

    Yianni’s has become an institution in and an anchor to Downtown Morganton.



    Our story begins long ago in a land far, far away. King Phillip of Macedonia had a son Alexander who was called Great.  Alexander named his domain Greece.  Greece was civilized.  It influenced the politics, religion, philosophy, government, economy, social structure and cuisine of the entire then known earth.  Over time Greece begat Rome.  Rome was an Empire. Among many things, Rome is famous for its roads and togas and parties and baths; its chariot races and lions.  It was also famous for its food.  It was named Italian.  Italian food.


    Several millennia later a young man who loved food (both to eat it and to prepare it for others to enjoy), traveled from Greece to New York and began to both eat food and prepare it for others.  His name is Yianni.


Here you can take in the fresh air on the large covered deck or sit in our lounge style dinning area. With multiple large screen TV's, you can watch the big game while you enjoy the best that the local breweries offer.

With our small stage you can relax and carry on a conversation while you listen to some live music. If you need something more than just a great meal then you will find it when you head upstairs.
